Training & Coaching

Carey Group Publishing develops tools—by practitioners for practitioners—that help to translate research into our day-to-day work. While our products do not require training or certification, experience demonstrates that many staff will benefit from training and coaching in their use.

Our parent company, The Carey Group, provides training and coaching for agencies who are interested in supporting staff skill development in the use of our risk reduction tools. Training and coaching approaches can be customized to your agency’s specific needs, but we recommend the following:

  1. Effective Use of the BITS Toolkit
A skill based training for line staff and supervisors on the use of Carey Group Publishing’s BITS Toolkit, a set of 6 tools designed to quickly address offender skill deficits
  2. Effective Use of The Carey Guides
A skill based training for line staff and supervisors on the use of Carey Group Publishing’s Carey Guides to effectively address criminogenic needs and enhance case management.
    1. For organizations that have in-house training capacity, we have produced a number of complimentary products to support the use of the Carey Guides. These include a Carey Guide training curriculum (presented in PowerPoint); a Carey Guide training participant manual; and a User’s Guide that answers the questions most commonly asked about the Guides. Each is available at no cost to Carey Guide customers. Click the titles above to access these products.
  3. The Carey Guides Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Program
A skill based training on CQI and review of CQI tools developed specifically to ensure that the Carey Guides are used with fidelity
  4. Restoration: Making Things Right
A hands-on training for individuals intending to use the Restoration: Making Things Right cognitive behavioral curriculum with juvenile offenders
