The Restoration Workbook and accompanying Facilitator’s Manual is a cognitive behavioral curriculum designed to help juvenile offenders accept responsibility for harmful behavior; restore the community, victim and him/herself; and adopt a new way of thinking and living. It is based upon restorative justice philosophy and uses social learning and cognitive-behavioral approaches to motivation and change. Three versions of the curriculum are presented to accommodate varying periods of confinement or supervision.
This curriculum is appropriate for agencies that have already embraced a restorative justice (RJ) mission or philosophical framework. The curriculum provides opportunities for the offender to practice and apply restorative justice learning and skills. It should not be used as a standalone curriculum but as a complement to an active organizational RJ philosophy and a comprehensive and effective continuum of interventions.
The curriculum is designed to be straightforward so that extensive training specific to the curriculum itself is not required. However, an intermediate understanding of Restorative Justice, a working knowledge of social learning theory, and basic training in group facilitation is necessary.
